The gel pads provide a soft cushion on my shoulder and distribute the force from the strap over a larger area. Prior to getting this strap cover, I was constantly struggling with the force of the strap on my shoulder and the side of my neck; it was painful. This strap cover makes it possible for me to have the strap on my shoulder, across my chest and back, so it is also against the side of my neck. This strap cover is a lifesaver, for being able to use my camera bag. That makes this strap cover very precious to me and the use of my camera bag. Don't be put off by the term "guitar" strap shoulder pad. It can be used for any strap, and is wonderful for a camera bag.
